HAVE A BLAST - WITHOUT BEING BLASTED!
Nothing compares with open-top driving. But it doesn't have to come with intolerable wind noise and buffeting - 'bugs in the teeth' might have a nostalgic ring to it, but today's sportscar enthusiast has developed the taste for something a little more sophisticated! The 5EXi’s slippery aerodynamics and steeply-angled windscreen mean you can hold normal conversations even at high speed. And you can leave your flying helmet at home!
   
REAL SPORTSCAR HANDLING
The 5EXi features a mid-mounted engine (see ‘Real sportscar performance’) for perfect weight distribution and neutral handling. Coupled with specially fabricated suspension components (see ‘Real sportscar suspension’), it gives the 5EXi the sort of feel normally associated with upmarket racing sportscars and exotics.
   
REAL SPORTSCAR PERFORMANCE
The 5EXi is designed around the Rover K-Series engine/gearbox unit, which means you can choose from a range of engines, from the cheap to run and insure 1100cc, through 1400, 1600 and 1800 versions, right up to the wild, two-litre turbo Tomcat (as used in the breath-taking company demonstrator), for a blistering 0-60 time of around four seconds! The 5EXi’s lightweight construction (from around 530kg all-up) and low-drag aerodynamics give stunning performance even with the smaller engine options.
   
REAL SPORTSCAR SUSPENSION
The 5EXi, like all high-performance sportscars, features independent suspension all- round, based on uprights and double wishbones developed by Marlin specially for the car. Adjustable coil-over dampers are used front and back, so ride settings can be tuned for transition from road to track.
   

REAL SPORTSCAR FEEL
Designing an effective road/track sportscar is all about balance - between no-compromise, high-speed driving dynamics and the more user-friendly characteristics that make a car practical on a daily basis. And it's a balance that the 5EXi strikes perfectly. On those mundane, A-B journeys we all have to make, it is forgiving and easy to drive - but when you want the excitement of a B-road blast, or to show a clean pair of tyres to the more traditional track day machines, the 5EXi delivers.

   
BRINGING SPORTSCARS UP TO DATE
For too long the sportscar enthusiast on limited funds could only choose from near-identical, Lotus Seven-inspired models, all based on a design that dates back to the Fifties. The 5EXi brings the affordable real sportscar concept bang up to date, combining the same low-cost, easy-build, no-compromise principles with aggressive, modern styling and subtle practical features that make it easy, as well as great fun, to drive and live with.
