  DONOR INFORMATION

The build
The Marlin Sportster is a relatively easy car to build and we estimate a total construction time, once the donor parts are prepared, of under 200 hours with
a number of design features having been incorporated specifically to help the builder.
Stage one of the kit includes a CD featuring many photographs taken during several actual builds plus a paper build manual with step by step instructions and drawings to assist you.

Choice of donor
When choosing a donor car for a kit car build, buy the best you can afford. MOT failures or even accident-damaged cars are fine, providing none of the required parts (see below) are damaged or missing, but a low-mileage car is obviously favourable.

We find it for you
And if you don't want to source the donor parts yourself, we will provide them
on a pallet for you to prepare (with all details required to register later) or we can supply the parts reconditioned or brand new.

Marlin build stands
For extra ease of build Marlin’s specially designed build stands not only allow the car to be moved in, out and around your garage during the build, they also keep the chassis at the correct height to avoid un-necessary back strain.

The BMW donor
The Sportster is a BMW-based sports car, with components sourced from either the E30 or E36 3-series and on. Beyond the components we fabricate and supply ourselves, a single donor car is capable of providing all the other parts to complete your car. Alternatively, our earlier Ford-based Sportster kit remains available - please contact the factory for more detailed donor information if you wish to head this route.

BMW donor options
E30 323, 325 or M3.
The later E36 BMW’s (and on) are now most commonly used.
All of the 6-cylinder BMW engines can be accommodated (whether single or double overhead camshaft), up to and including the mighty 3ltr M3 Evo units.
The kit was designed as a one donor kit i.e. the vast majority of required components can be obtained from one car source. Any specialist parts come with the kit and further parts required are either available from us or on general sale.
