MARLIN GET ON THE GAS

MARLIN CARS IS HELPING KIT CAR ENTHUSIASTS BEAT THE UK'S spiralling fuel costs with a bespoke LPG gas conversion for its mid-engined 5EXI roadster. With the cost of unleaded still marching towards £1 per litre, LPG conversions (where prices are between 35-40 pence per litre) are becoming more appealing by the day.

Well the show season finally drew to a close at Exeter last weekend and what an extremely good show it proved to be. The Saturday was very busy and Sunday also saw a steady stream of people in attendance and enjoying the day.

A few people commented to me that there appeared to be a lack of manufacturers compared to last year and that possibly the lay out could have been slightly improved upon. But our stand was always busy and people had no trouble finding us. Our apologies to those of you we did not get chance to speak to; sadly there really is never enough time when we attend our local show.

The new gorgeous Midnight Blue 5EXi-R was extremely well received and every time we took the back off the car it was like bee's round a honey pot. The Honda type 'R' engine is proving to be a very popular choice with customers and so is our recently introduced option of a 1.6 Honda power train.

The lovely orange 5EXi also caused quite a stir with its recent LPG option now fitted and having driven the car my self, I can categorically say that there is no difference in running on gas or petrol (if anything I think it performed slightly better). When the car switched over from gas to petrol during use there was no noticeable difference - apart from the special fuel gauge beeping at me to tell me this had happened.

Finally Andrew and Jeannette Curtis allowed us to use their wonderful BMW
E36 based Sportster which looked fantastic on the stand. They love this car so much that they have also commissioned us to build them another Sportster - using the BMW 330 common rail Diesel engine. In fact this has already been built up as far as a rolling chassis and was also on display at the show. This sportscar should have performance a plenty and like no other, with its massive 369lbs/ft of torque and 231bhp on tap.

So now that the show season is over for 2005 we are already preparing for our next show in early 2006. This is Autosport and is running from the 12th to the 15th January. We will have more details posted online about this as soon as possible, along with a diary of events for next year. so watch this space!
