Castle Coombe - Feeback from customers

The following was sent in to Marlin Cars, along with some lovely pictures, from John Clements summarising the last few months spent enjoying his Marlin Sportster.

My M3 based Sportster has been running very well in its first year on the road and with the miles beginning to clock up the car just seems to be getting better & better. So far this year we have been to a Keevil track day in May and the well organised and enjoyable day at Marlin's 'Open Day Event' at Llandow circuit on the 3rd of June. We also made that trip part of our own short holiday break touring South Wales staying at Llanerch Vineyard, a good place to be, with a safe car park.

Last week-end my wife and I (as members of the Marlin Racing Car Club) were invited to attend the track day run by the Bristol Pegasus Club at Castle Combe. We arrived feeling a bit apprehensive and also very excited. Once settled in we then received circuit tuition, that takes you through the best racing line, and also covered the safety aspects of the track, we were ready to start our first run by 10.00am.

The day, consisting of 4 ticketed runs on the circuit, meant that we had a minimum of four runs on the circuit with any time left over for additional runs at the end of the day, which finished at 5pm. We managed five runs throughout the day and also felt we benefited by watching the other cars taking part, including Mike Coombes in his V8 powered Sportster.

Castle Combe circuit is in another dimension from the others we have visited so far, a wide and long fast track that you do not want to leave when the chequered flag is waved, a highly recommended experience that, I for one, want to repeat when we get another chance.

Castle Combe Track day

If you would like to find out the limits of your Sportster and yourself, then what better place to find out than on a track day. This time we went along to the Castle Coombe track day run by Bristol Pegasus Motor Club. Ken Robson invited the Marlin Sports Cars Club along to this event.

There were around 50 cars in attendance at this popular event, but sadly only 2 of the cars there were members of the Marlin Sportster Car Club, myself and John Clements in his BMW M3 Sportster. It was a shame to see so few members there as it was a fantastic day and a must for 2007.

The circuit is just under 3km long with fast flowing curves and sharp chicanes, which makes it a very good circuit for all cars. We had 4 trips out onto the circuit which was allowing 6-7 cars on the track at one time. This meant there was plenty of room and you could have a really enjoyable time with a clear track most of the way around with each session lasted about 10minutes. Myself and my son Jonathan shared the driving, as he is planning on building and racing a 5EXi with Nick Milnes in 2007, so it was a good chance for him to have a drive on a circuit with a bit more power. Overall it was a fantastic day and one not to miss out on in 2007.
Many Thanks to BPMC and to Ken for inviting us along,

Mike & Jonathan Coombes
