Hello!

A few of you have asked how the last race went - so here goes..

Race Report - Castle Combe - 7th May 2007

Qualifying
The day started with rather bad driving conditions - even getting to Castle Combe circuit was a bit of a chore in my comfy BMW!

Ironically, we only just managed to get our new slick tires for the day - obviously we chose not to put them on as it was chucking it with rain.
The qualifying session was interesting to say the least - with our semi-click tires on, it was really not much different to driving on ice.
We were slow and pathetic - I span the car once, Mark managing to do it no less than 5 times!
Needless to say that we were pretty much at the back of the grid :-(

Race
Soon after our qualifying session, the rain stopped, sun came out and things started to look up.
We decided to tempt fate and put our shiny new slicks on for the race. It turned out to be a good decision as it stayed dry.

Armed with the new found grip of the slick tires I had a great start, overtook quite a few cars and managed to assume 4th place in our class after the first few corners - closely followed by Mark in the other Marlin.
Mark soon got a bit too ambitious, overtook me and had a pretty nasty spin, ending up in the tire wall with broken rear suspension.
Several laps later, under pressure from a car behind me, I thought it would be fun to break at the worst possible moment at about 100mph and I found myself spinning off into the grass field (see picture) and lost some valuable spaces to cars that realized that its far quicker to stay on the gray stuff..
However, after finding my way back onto the race track I managed to catch and overtake one car half a lap ahead and then another car literally on the last corner before the finish line - ending up 6th.

I know - not great - could have been a lot better - but hey that's racing….. Its another finish though :-)

Next race
Next race is on 28th May in Castle Combe (bank holiday Monday).

Regards to all,

Dylan
