Driving for Diabetes
Ken Robson from the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club will raise money for leading health charity Diabetes UK by driving to the Spa Francorchamps Formula 1 Circuit in Belgium and drive round the circuit. He will then drive to the world famous Nurburgring in Germany and also do a circuit. The ‘Driving for Diabetes’ event will take place from 4 to 8 August 2008.
Ken, who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006, will take his Marlin 5exi sports car and will be accompanied by his good friend Dave Bence who will be driving his Onyx Firefox and providing mechanical support.
To raise funds Ken is giving individuals and company’s the opportunity to have their name and logo professionally displayed on his car which will feature in any publicity the event receives. Individuals can have their name featured on the car for the £10 whilst the price for company logos starts from £50.
Ken Robson said: “After being diagnosed with a rare form of diabetes in 2006 which led to other complications and took a full year to get under control, Diabetes UK and my medical team were integral in helping me manage this condition. I am extremely grateful to Diabetes UK for all of their help and support and after being so ill. I am delighted to be fit enough to undertake one of my lifetime ambitions and help raise awareness and money for them”.
Sarah Cummins, Diabetes UK South West Regional Fundraising Manager, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes and fundraise at the same time. 190,000 people in the South West have diabetes and over 50,000 people have the condition but do not realise they have it. Nationally over 2.3 million people have diabetes. We are very excited to be involved with Ken and this exciting fund raising opportunity.”
